General Comments

my wife and I have just returned from a 10 day cruise on the Norwegian Cruise Line Jade. overall we enjoyed our holiday and being experienced cruisers and having sailed with Norwegian before knew what to expect. the ship is spotlessly clean and the colours are very bright indeed in most public lounges. the shows on board are of a good standard in the main and the food in the two main restaurants was nicely served by very friendly waiters and the quality and choice was good. there is also the garden buffet restaurant which has a good selection of dishes and is open all day but it can get very crowded at times and seemed rather rushed. most of the speciality restaurants carry a surcharge of between $10 and $25 per person but having tried the italian and the bistro whilst on board found it well worth it make a note of the 2 for 1 offers available up to 7pm. the service in the numerous bars was excellent especially in Magnum bar, but it has to be said the price of the drinks are at the top end of cruise line prices (beware Norwegian you could be pricing yourselves out of people drinking wine with average prices of $35 a bottle plus the 15% gratuity). we do take organised excursions and the prices for them on this ship were exhorbitant. do your own thing or share a taxi with someone or use the rail services in the resorts if possible the main topic of conversation on board was the prices of the drinks, excursions and the $12 per day service charge per person. this can be scaled down accordingly or wipe out at reception. we reduced ours to $5 per day each and gave our own gratuities to special staff. This is a lovely ship that offers a different kind of cruising to the conventional type so may not suit all cruisers but we had a lovely mediterranean holiday aboard thanks to the wonderful staff.
