Bought the Dyson CR01 Contra Rotator in Jan 2005 just after my little boy was born. Before that we had a Hotpoint Ultima, but wasn't impressed with its wash performance, as there never seemed to be enough water going into the drum for the wash cycle. Clothes were still smelling sweaty, particularly my gym t-shirts, even after a 50 degree wash cycle. I complained to Hotpoint and got nowhere. So decided to sell it 2nd hand and bought the Dyson. It's brilliant, it washes a massive load in half the time of other washers (good now that I've got 3 kids) and it also looks funky too.

The only recommendations I have to make, which I have pointed out to Dyson are.........you can't change the programme part way through, i.e. if you select a 40 degree wash and start the machine but then want to change to a 30 degree wash, you can't, without cancelling the existing programme. In doing this, the drum drains of the wash water along with the detergent. You can add/reduce rinses, so I don't know why the designers didn't think of this.

It would be a good idea to know how long there is left to the end of the programme. Our Hotpoint used to countdown to the end of the programme.

The rinse cycles are a little short. As soon as the drum has filled with water, it empties and proceeds to the spin cycle. This is ok, but for the final rinse, where most people use fabric conditioner, it would be better to have a slightly longer rinse, so that the conditioner can penetrate the fabrics, making them smell fresher.

I also find, that because the drum is so big, washing one small item can sometimes be pointless.

Apart from that it's a great machine. Being able to open the door as soon as the cycle finishes is good. I've spoken to Dyson and they are researching to develop another machine that they hope will be more popular with the consumer market.
