My premium last year for my 3 year old labrador was £179. This year (now he's four) its £251. When I rang Marks and Spencer and asked why the pet insurance premium had gone up 40% in a credit crunch year when people are struggling to make ends meet , getting no interest on their savings, being made redundant and a supposed inflation rate of -0.5 % is in force (when I had never ever claimed) , I got excuses like the cost of MRI scans (which my pet has never had) - no mention of greedy vets and greedy underwriters who think they are immune to the credit crunch. I pointed out that despite this renewal quote I had got an on line quote from their website and been quoted £163 for exactly the SAME dog ! Their excuse for that was that I got a 15% discount (doesn't explain the 40% off) and pre existing conditions would not be covered, that's why it was cheaper. What pre existing conditions ? there arent any ! Absolutely disgraceful !
