General Comments
I went to Zizzi on a hot bank holiday weekend in Covent Garden, so as you can imagine, everywhere was packed!
Inside was nicely decorated with a rustic feel, and we had a nice view of the wood oven in the kitchen.
We were taken to our seat and given the menu to flick through. It's packed with all sorts of Italian style food, pastas, pizza and salads.
I requested a lasagne and my partner ordered a pizza. We also requested some garlic bread and a bottle of wine.
The drinks arrived just a few minutes later and maybe 15 minutes after that our food arrived. Firstly, I was very impressed with the garlic bread. It was served on a long wooden block and looked delicious. I'm pleased to report that it tasted just as good.
My lasagne came in a small dish with a summery side salad. I find most side salads these days tend to look rather lip and old, but with was fresh and crisp and tasted lovely. The lasagne was hot, and fairly good too, probably better that I had expected. My other half's pizza looked lovely too and he finished it off.
The meal came to around £35, which considering we had a bottle of wine and a couple of sides, I didn't think too bad for Central London.
The only thing that let this place down slightly was the staff. They were helpful and quick with the orders, They also cleared tables promptly and wiped them down as soon as people had left. But, they didn't smile at all! Not only that but their English (at least of the 3 I spoke to), was very rough which made placing our orders a little tricky.
