Good Points

I found the general staff to be very friendly (the managers somewhat less) which is why I gave them any stars at all.

Bad Points

It seems to be their whole concept of insurance which is a problem

General Comments

I wish I'd read this website before insuring with the RAC. I had opted for RAC Car Insurance which was slightly more than most as I didn't want a dodgy company and I wanted breakdown cover from the same place.

I had an overseas licence and exchanged it for a UK one about 5 years after I got here and decided to buy a car. I told the sales guy on the phone about this and put my no claims in for 8 years (length of time I was insured overseas) and he was aware I hadn't had a car for 5 years and it then turned out (after I paid £900 for insurance) that my old insurance was too old to count and I now had to pay just under £2000 in insurance! Turns out it was in the fine print and therefore not up to him to sort out and if I cancelled I would lose half the original money in admin/cancellation fees.

Not happy, but I take it on the chin and pay the extra as it would cost a fortune to cancel and then reinsure at the new price, only to find out that instead of charging the difference which they told me they would do they charge me for the new policy of £2000 in full after they already have taken the money for the first policy.

I then chase this money refund with all the various guarantees that it will be fully refunded ASAP and then after a month of chasing thorugh countless departments I'm now told that they will definately get it sorted in 7 days (not holding my breath) but that they won't refund in full but will also charge me for the few days between the two policies (which I never asked for and they insisted on) and therefore I will only get a part refund.

......guess who's insuring with the AA next year.
