Good Points

Longest 0% balance transfer period (16 months), although this carries a 3% one-off fee.


Bad Points

Did not inform me of the rate being cancelled due to a mix-up with the standing order, although this was rectified once I had noticed with a call to customer services.


General Comments

I took out the Virgin Credit Card as it currently has the longest 0% balance transfer period of 16 months.

Everything was very simple about the set-up process and I received the card and details very promptly. The customer service staff were very good at the time of setting up the balance transfer.

However, I set up a regular standing order from my bank to pay a set amount (a lot more than the minimum) but unfortunately Virgin set the monthly payment deadline to earlier than my payment was due to go through. Hence I was charged a late fee (which came through on my bill) but also the promotional rate of 0% was retracted, without anyone informing me. I had even tried to pay in extra that month to rectify the situation and they still charged me interest.

That said, I spoke to customer services and they agreed to cancel the interest they charged and re-instate the 0% balance transfer rate. It is just a good job I was checking my statement carefully otherwise I would not have noticed this. I hope that everything will be alright with my next statement!
