Good Points

Still cheaper than the big carriers (most of the time).
Generally on time-ish, but less punctual than they used to be, in my experience.
Modern fleet.
Planes generally clean.

Bad Points

Lousy check-in process (I'm speaking about Gatwick - cannot comment on other airports) where EJ now has a serpentine queuing system as opposed to the usual lines for each flight. In theory it should work well, but on both occasions I used it recently there were only 5-6 people on check in with about 400-500 people waiting to check in. It ' s not as if EJ should be surprised how many passengers turn up as they know which flights they are running and how many tickets have been booked for those flights. Check-in alone took over an hour, both times. The kids were screaming because it was taking so long. The ground staff ended up calling passengers out of the queue because the flights were going to close, so then there was a mad scrum to get to the front (pushing through everyone else queuing). Those left in the queue get even more frustrated as they keep getting shunted back, until of course their flight is about to close. It's a total madhouse, very slow, and very stressful, especially with kids. And that ' s before you have to endure the nightmare of security (but that ' s not within EJ ' s control). Next time, will go with BA, unless EJ's costs are so much cheaper that I can bear the pain. EJ will say that "Speedy Boarding" will make it much more pleasant, but that service is not cheap and significantly erodes the price differential with the competitors like BA (where you can check-in and book your seat online).

General Comments

EJ is fast losing its appeal. It used to be competitive on price and had reasonable (albeit no-frills) customer service. Their price is no longer that competitive as the big carriers are catching up, but EJ ' s levels of service are now so poor as to border on appalling. Might use them again in an emergency, but more likely to pay the premium and go BA.
