My friend and I had the unfortunate experience of flying home to Australia with Air Canada. As it was World Youth Week, we were expecting our plane to be quite full. We checked in at the airport at 6pm for our 11.50pm flight so we could be sure there would be no issue. Having sat there for many hours, we heard people around us saying our plane was delayed, which was pretty obvious as it was 12.30am. No annoucement, no air canada staff, just the poor airport security guy to answer questions.
Finally plane arrives, we are ready to board and our name, plus 2 other Australians, 2 Americans and 1 16yr old Isralei guy are called to the desk, to find out, at 2.30 in the morning that we were being bumped. This was unbeleivable becasue they were handing out boarding passes to people at the terminal who were saying "oh i hope i get on this flight". They had let us sit there for over 3 hours and told us nothing.
Then, we were told to go back through the deserted airport, by ourselves (2 young females) and collect our bags. We found our bags "in the middle of the airport unattended" as everyone had gone home. This is round 4.30 in the morning.
Our taxi voucher, no one would take so we paid, spent 2 hours in our hotel before we had to go back to get on another flight. Not a direct flight to Sydney like we paid for, but one via China.
When we got to China, no Air Canada Rep to help or advise us.
I have never in my 11 years of international travel been treated so poorly.
I wouldn't send anyone on this airline. What should have been a 15 hour direct flight, took us 2 days to get home!
