Aston Manor Brewery Frosty Jack's is cheap enough at 3 quid for 3 litres. Run a couple of 3 litre bottles through a small home-made still and you have a decent bottle of good tasting "calvados" style poteen for £6. That's a half litre bottle of stuff at about 60% by volume. Can't go wrong at that price!

I found this review very helpful because thanks to exorbitant taxation alcohol is very expensive : home-made stills sound appealing - i'll have to do some google research to find out what's involved.
