Awful, awful service, glasses everything. Won't be going there again!!!!
General Comments
Very poor service at Specsavers. I agree with some of the other comments from reviewers - too much sales patter as soon as you get into the store. Also I thought going to the opticians was about a health screening for your eyes - Specsavers seem to have turned this important test into something that's totally about sales. It should be about the quality of the eye test and the end product i.e. glasses or contact lenses which are comfortable, correct your vision deficit and suit you. You only have one pair of eyes - look after them!!! It's not like you can replace them like teeth!
I ended up spending an awful lot of money for a very sub-standard product (awful glasses) which started falling apart after a few months. Specsavers don't offer refunds even though its their shoddy craftmanship. I ended up going to the new vision express store down the road to have my specsavers glasses put back together again! I decided to purchase a pair of glasses from vision express in the end - I am very happy with my new glasses and was extremely pleased with the eye test which was conducted as a health screen should be!!
Will NEVER go there again and would not recommend anyone to go there. I shouldn't have gone to specsavers!!

on 6th Jun 2009I'm afraid we all suffer with services generally because people feel life is too short to complain properly! And even if they do, the mostly ineffectual response experienced when contacting consumer "trading standards" is abysmal. Taking you glasses as an example, why should you pay to have them repaired elsewhere than Specsavers? Where the glasses of merchantable quality? Clearly (excuse the pun) they were not! And do you know that even after a statutory guarantee period, you have the right to question "What is A FAIR consumer expectation of this product or service?" Did the glasses perform as expected? Okay you then approach trading standards with this question, who then appear to advise generally and be very proactive, but after about a year when you may get a confirmation of your rights, you must carry out a prosecution on your own! And although you may get a small claims reduced fee to bring your case (£75) up to a requisite claim value, you will undoubtedly have wasted a day in court and travelling times (without pay) to prove your point! Is this fair? Does our "nanny state" government give a damn about consumer rights and issues? Or is this just another example of DIY bodge up government micro management? But do complain and complain big time! It's the only way to change anything.

I agree with one point - this is the general comment relevant (perhaps) for almost all the opticians attached to spec-selling shops (I tried 3 in one year in UK and many more in other places). Their objective is not just to test your eyes but to push-sell. If your old glasses are more or less OK they will make some minor changes and recomment a new pair of glasses - recommend many extra options MAR etc without telling you the detailed implications. You may not know what is MAR -why on earth you need it. Furthermore they will keep the details of your eye inspection report in their own file; you will get a summary report of power -no DPD NPD OCD details. You are now just captive buyer of that shop. Sometimes they will give you free eye test if you buy one or two pairs from their shop. This is to push sell specs. They will never tell you the basics you need as an eye patient.
But your experience of SPECSAVERS is unfortunate. I got my two pairs of varifical lenses replaced by two pairs of single vision lenses and got no-question refund of 109 GBP; also my broken spec. frame repaired within the one year warranty period (of course after much delay which they claimed is the fault of the FCUK frame manufacturers)
