Good Points

Light, well made, easily tuned, relatively accurate and good value.

Bad Points

Relatively under powered in standard form. Breach is very tight in standard form. Lots of recoil!

General Comments

I bought the "25" Supersport from BSA after frustration at not being able to knock down some admitedly rusty field tarkets with my .177 caliber Falcon.
The "25" BSA proved to be the answer, knocking down even the most rusty and seized field targets.
I fitted a 3x9x40 SMK sight which fell to bits due to the recoil after 200 odd shots.
In standard form the rifle makes around 9ft/lbs, which does not sound alot, but of course with such heavy ammunition ( I use H&N field target trophey 20grn )the pellet maintains it energy much more efficently than lighter calibers, carrying a enormous punch to the target.
One real problem is that the breach is so tight that some pellets ( Bisley pest control ) are almost impossible to push into the barrell.
I decided to tune the rifle to try and reach the U.K legal limit.
I did this by fitting an Ox main spring. (very simple to do). This took the power to over 16 ft/lbs. This was easily adjusted down to a legal 11.8 ft/lbs by winding in the transfer port screw a few turns.
I then carefuly polished the breach to allow pellets to drop in easily. This reduced power, probably due to the sizing effect of physically pushing the round into barrel was lost. This was easily corrected by winding the transfer port screw back out a few turns give 11.8 ft/lbs again.
I did away with the broken SMK sight and reverted to the origonal iron sights.
This set-up proved absolutely devistating. My first shot hit an Air Arms zero target at 40 yards breaking the target!
In conclusion, this would make a fine rabbit gun, and raises a few eye brows when used for field target competitions, particularly with iron sights!

Go canny with the power on that gun..it might stray over the legal limit. Otherwise, FAIR PLAY!

Nice with the iron sights....get a nice scope on it....good mounts and a 4x"something small" nicely made and it will be nice and low to the barrel. Then it'l be a dream in the field.

    GO DO BUNNIES!

    Dear Nigel
I too have purchased the super sport .25 and find it a joy to shoot, but feel it would benefit from more ft/lbs. please could you share your tips for tuning this gun as I could get as far as installing the ox main spring but have no clue how to go about adjusting the transfer port.
