General Comments

Iv been with AOL since the 90s (first dial-up then broadband), and up to about a year ago they were pretty good. I never got disconnected, no caps, it just worked (after i uninstalled their awful software and used firefox and thunderbird instead).
Then i noticed that certain sites like youtube wouldnt work properly for long periods of time, then came the disconnections. Windows reports that its still connected to the internet as does the router, but nothing works.
Its not the computer, because it happens on all 3 of my machines running 3 different operating systems (vista/xp/ubuntu). Its not the router as iv tried various different ones. Its not the phone line either, as it worked for years faultlessly and others in the same building with different i.s.ps dont have this problem..
Sometimes resetting the router gets it going again but more often than not it simply wont work for 20 mins or so. Lately I have started getting BT error pages saying that i have a broadband connection but AOLs dns servers arnt there.
My line can handle up to 6mb/s and im on an 8mb/s package but iv never got more than 2.5mb/s, the speed sometimes drops below 200k in the evening (usually between 7.30pm and 11.00pm).

Customer service isnt good, i gave up trying to get them to unlock one of my email accounts (they never explained why it was locked, insisted i installed their dreadful, bloated browser before they would help, and after they unlocked it, i changed the default pw and it locked again.)

The AOL software is appalling, it installs proccesses into windows startup that slow the entire machine down, the browser itself is bloated beyond belief and the built in google search returns a bastardised version of the results thats mostly adverts.
