Good Points

On examining the detail of the policy - as they say "the devil is in the detail" - don't just look at the overall sums insured, they are misleding

Bad Points

Expensive - £163 more than what the broker offered me. No personal service. I was able to talk to the broker face to face, be shown the policy wording and discuss the advantages and disadvantages with the qualified advisor.

General Comments

When I consulted an independent insurance broker, I was horrified as to the limited cover provided by the Halifax home insurancey policy. There was a £250 escape of water excess and a £100 general excess on my policy. But worse than that is that there was an overall total limit on valuables of only £5,000. When the broker pointed out to me the definition of valuables within their policy, it included computers, televisions, video and audio equipment, photograpic equipment, DVDs, CDs, jewellery and items made from precisou metals, watches, clocks, furs, works of art ( which in this case includes but is not limited to pictures, paintings, sculputers, bronzes, ornaments, jewellery, limited editions and fine art collectables), telescopes, microscopes, musical instruments, and sets or collectables / collections including but not limited to stamp, medal and coin collections. Also, for any for any of these there is a limit any one item of £1500
In comparison, the policy that took out with the broker has a limit of 40% of the contents sum insured ( £20,000) for high risk items, which are defined as jewellery, items of platinum, gold or silver, clocks, watches, furs works of art, pictures, stamp coin or medal collections, with a limit any one of these items of £2500, unless specified on the policy.
