I was with Norwich Union between 2006-2008 and would not return to them. I had a roundabout crash in Dec 2007. I knew it would be settled 50:50, as no witnesses stopped, so figured it would be settled quite quickly. Even so it wasn't until July 2008 that NU finally settled my claim.

I had to deal with foreign call centres each time who kept telling me that they would ring me on a certain date, then didn't call. Their excuse every time was that they hadn't heard back from the third party insurer, but my argument was that they could have called me as promised to let me know that they were still working on my claim.

Their customer services was apalling. They even told me at one point, that the accident was 100% my fault because I was in the left-hand lane going straight across a roundabout and should have been in the right lane to go straight across, then they confessed that they didn't have my notes up on screen. They got the refund for my excess wrong and I had to wait 3 months after having my car repaired, before I finally got the cheque. My claim was only dealt with when I eventually told them I wanted to make an official complaint.

I really wouldn't recommend NU. They may be cheap if you don't have a crash, but if you do, you have to go through all kinds of stress while your claim is handled.
