My family have been looking recently for a replacement car for my Nana, who's husband recently passed away, and needs a smaller car than the '02 BMW 5 Series she's been struggling with. We decided upon a Volkswagen Golf 1.4 TSI GT Sport 170 as a replacement, as a smaller easier to drive replacement.

We found an excellent example at Motorpoint of Derby, but upon arriving were told that it had been sold that morning. The salesman then went on to tell us that they had several identical cars in stock, only without the leather heated seats and parking sensors of the sold car. We had a look at the other vehicles and Nana liked it very much, and as they appeared to have GT Sport trim we thought nothing of it. We asked as well, at this point if the car was exactly the same as the sold one, to which he replied yes, in every way apart from the seats and sensors, which we could have fitted as after-market modifications by Motorpoint.

So we placed a £500 deposit and collected it the following week. On driving it home my brother thought it was a little slow, and flat for a 170 bhp car, but thought it was merely tight, and limited by it engine electronics as it had done less than 1000 miles. However, when my father looked at it, he found out it was in fact a normal 80bhp Golf with a GT Sport trim attached to make it look like the TSI model, and was in fact European spec car that had been sold to us as a TSI model, despite us asking and without or knowledge.

I write this to let others know about this, if using Motorpoint Derby, and we do not want this to happen to any other customers. The question begs as to how many other people have bought cars, and still not know that they do not have the car they thought they have?
