General Comments

The full review contains all the problems.
I bought a Mitsubishi L200 53 reg. in June 2008 for £6000 second hand, which is a very good price. This car was recommended by a roadside mechanic- he was wrong. The first problem i noticed was the rear windows, they take a great effort to close; they keep going back down again. Eventually, i had to use force! Secondly, I was driving on the motorway at about 85mph, and a warning light appeared, 'Economic control unit'. This is where the engine is using up more fuel than usual and cannot continue at that speed for very long, so i ended up with a max. speed of 50 mph for the rest of the journey! That happened twice. The next problem was very serious; again, i was driving on the motorway when all of a sudden i heard this terrible sort of jingling jangling noise coming from the engine. I pulled over and called my breakdown company, they had a listen, and said it was very serious and it had to be taken in. In the next few weeks, my mechanic discovered that the lower part of the engine had a problem. It was the 3rd cylinder to be exact. The big bearing head for the cylinder had shattered, which was terminal. Now i need a new engine which is a massive cost! Despite all this, the Mitsubishi can have its good days- it is good off road with its 4WD L and H, and has excellent grip on the tyres. The cabin is also reasonably comfortable if it is not full, but the suspension spoils it- my cabin is leather but I'm sure the fabric would be more comfortable. Overall i wouldn't recommend this vehicle for reliability mainly, and the practicality and ease to 'care' for. I hope this helps

I found this review very helpful because...I have had exactly the same problems same reg,53. L200 4Work, dont make the same mistake as me on the engine by trying to buy cheap,go for a remanufactured quality with parts AND labour warranty from a reputable company, they are around eg Prestege engines has been rcomended to me and will cost about £2500 with fitting. the engine management problem sounds the same as mine comes up 2 or 3 times a year, I pull over switch off and leave it a few mins and hey presto it disapears for a few months
