Virgin Active gym on the strand is not a cheap gym. The monthly membership is £80 a month. When you compare it to Fitness First gym it looks expensive. Having been a member of both gyms I can safely say that it is worth paying extra for Virgin Active. First up you get a pool. You also get a darn site more space and machines.

The best thing about Virgin Active is that you get clean changing rooms. In Virgin Active you have a cleaner who is permanently appointed to cleaning the changing rooms.

Virgin also offers an extensive list of classes but be warned you have to get there early if you want to do yoga, it's always over subscribed.

On the downside, even though it's a 'ozone' pool, whatever that means, it still stings your eyes chronically. There are only two lanes which means you can unwittingly find yourself in hurtling straight into the person in front if your doing front crawl. I don't need to explain but if they are doing breast stroke the consequences can be more than a little eye watering.
