I am an international business person whom usually resides in Canada. A couple of years ago I began a NatWest Private banking account while I was travelling and doing business in the UK. The account was to enable me to transfer funds to and from the UK with my Canadian accounts. By having an account in the UK I could spend more money while in the UK on business or pleasure. Unfortunately, NatWest private banking, to my surprise and without notice, seems to have moved my account out of Private Banking and to the regular branch. Normally this would be OK, however when a person is dealing at the branch level they can not wire funds and do many other things without being in the branch physically. Obviously this is difficult for me, as I would have to make a trip to the UK in order to do a banking transaction. According to NatWest I haven't used my account enough, and I no longer meet the criteria for Private banking. The strange thing is, I still use my account as I always have and my financial situation has not worsened, in fact it has improved since I opened the account. Needless to say, this is a minor inconvenience to me and many others are suffering more than I during this time of financial uncertainty. However, I wonder how the situation will improve when banks, like NatWest, are In my opinion alienating their customers. I am withdrawing all of the funds currently in the account and closing it. The move to the branch level dictate that it would take a month or more to transfer funds to or from Canada. Obviously, for most financial transaction, I do not have a month to wait.
