Good Points

More than five USB ports; quality of monitor is good; fairly quiet; quick start up and fairly quick shut down; adequate sound quality; works with windows vista; upgrading memory after two and a half years was cheap and simple (computer is now fast in internet and file operations); drivers available from dell.com

Bad Points

Memory was originally low (only 512mb: 1GB would have been best); drive is noisy (but this could be replaced)

General Comments

Dell Dimension 3100C has been a good work horse computer, but no frills (except perhaps the monitor). There is a feel of solidity and reliability about the tower. It is also very easy to access the inside (a simple and strong release mechanism). It has a headphone socket on the front which is a nice feature (if used the audio out in the back of the motherboard is muted). Disk drive works at 90degrees to normal drive position - fun. Add a wireless device and an external hard disk and you have a lovely work station.
