I bought a Honda Varadero XL125V on a 56 plate 4 months ago. It's my first and only bike to date so apologies for not having much to compare it against, but I've been really pleased with it so far. It's acceleration and top speed are nothing to shout home about, but hey, it's a 125! I can't imagine it's any worse than it's competitors. On A roads it can cruise easily at 70mph, topping out around 75mph (although I've got an indicated 80mph a couple of times - probably wind-assisted!). It's just a bit underpowered for overtaking, but I can live with that on a learner-legal bike! It feels like a "proper" bike despite being only a 125, which gives you a decent road presence - good for a learner! A lot of people say it's good for tall riders, but I'm only 5'8" and it doesn't feel too big for me. It's nippy enough for commutes but also comfortable enough for long journeys. Overall it's a fantastic bike and I'm really happy for it. The only thing that would make me want to upgrade is to have a little more power for accelerating and overtaking, but you won't find that in the 125 range.
