Good Points

1.9JTD ELX is practical, economical, has a good seat layout, has been reliable and a family favourite.

Bad Points

1 fuse (lights) blows every 6 months or so - big deal! Injector light came on intermittently for 4 years before I found that the problem was a loose connection to the ECU situated in the passenger footwell...easy fix but used to lose power & drive with no injection.

General Comments

Bought our Fiat Multipla 1.9 JTD ELX new (Sep 2000). 2 years later we emigrated to New Zealand and took it with us. We still have it (Mar 2009 at 90,000 miles) - this is a testament to our car's practicality, economy & reliability.
In 9 years the repairs have been : New Front Discs (73,000 miles); New Drivebelt (74,000 miles); New Clutch (75,000 miles); New Glow Plugs (85,000 miles). Cam Belt was replaced at 85,000 miles.
General question for the vehicle manufacturers : Why, since Henry Ford started mass producing in early 1900's, do 99% of vehicles still have the same seat configuration - especially since the Multipla has proven the way in 3-abreast ?
