As already said, I have thick, curly hair. It took over an hour and a half to straighten with my old remmington straighteners. Now I can do it before I go to school, without getting up at about 5am.
GHD's make my hair so shiny. When I used to use them every day (I'm a recovering straightening addict, who now prefers her hair curly) it didn't damage my hair. However, GHD protection spray seemed to make my hair really dry. I used Paul Mitchell, but other cheap ones work well. I used them to curl my little sister's hair (her's is poker straight), and it was gorgeous. Unfortunately, I'd ran out of spray, so they fell out, but that's my fault.
Also, they do get very hot,
I've had two other pairs of straightners; both of them broke before they were 12 months old. I've had these 18 months, used them loads, and they're still good as new.
Finally, make sure you clean the plates, as it can makes your hair a little greasy if you don't, as product builds up.

These are most definitely the best straighterners I have ever used. They're expensive, but worth it though.
