We have just returned from this fantastic holiday on the Nile, on the Semiramis 2 (25 Feb 2009) The staff on board are fantastic and very helpful and freindly. My husabnd had a bit of a tummy upset and they organised special meals for him for 24 hours. Thomas Cook combined with Blue Sky Tours is efficient and most enjoyable and our guide was friendly, helful and very informative. We found there could be a slight smell in the cabins but if you make sure you leave the plug in the sink this is not a problem. The towels seemed a bit grey depending on which week you are there as we were told they are washed with mixed colours, but if you hit the changover week they are perfectly white and fluffy. Whichever they are changed every day. It seems to cost you quite a lot if you book a few extra excursions but they were all great value for money in our opinion (a must is to go to Abu Simbel).
If you are transferring to the Red Sea for a second week as we did Thomas Cook will tell you that Marsa Alam is 6/6.5 hours away - it's not!!! It took us 8 hours there and 7.5 hours back and this coupled with the flight home is too much as you have to go back to the boat in Luxory before you are tekn to the airport. Don't go any further than Hurgada or go somewhere you can get an internal flight as there are no internal flights at Marsa Alam. This is a must do holiday - it's hectic with early starts but well worth it and we have never been on a holiday where the staff and other guests are so friendly. It's a fantastic expereince even if you are not really interested in history.
