I had (I have now cancelled) the RAC maximum cover as I have several classic cars and travel through Europe a lot, over £250 a year. This is not the first issue I have had with them but it will be the last. I had a major engine failure and despite informing them where the car needed to be taken when they finally arrived 2 hrs later in a patrol van they said they would take the car take the car to a local location temporarily while they waited for a proper recovery truck. When we got to this local location they then informed me that this was as far as they were going to take it as I had agreed to this location (but only because they told me it was temporary). It was now very late and I had no choice but to make my way home as there seemed to be no one at the RAC left to deal with my complaint.
The next day I spoke with customer services who after some discussion agreed to collect the car from where they left it and take it to the garage. When I collected the car from the garage after the car had been fixed I found the paint had been damaged around towing eye from I believe, them winching onto the flatbed.
I informed them of damage, after 2 weeks they finally got back to me to inform me that they had investigated and they had a signed job sheet where the garage had signed to accept the vehicle and it had no damage. I asked for and received a copy of this job sheet, there is a vague mark which honestly could not be even be described as a squiggle in a completely random place which they now claim as proof of the garage signing to say there is no damage. The supposed signature does not seem to be in the correct place and there is no printed name to verify who supposedly signed for it. The garage says is not proof that they signed to say the car was in good condition because it does not have the correct information on it. So now it is me, the customer who is left with the expense and hassle of fixing this after entrusting my car to the "professionals" at the RAC.
