The fridge freezer cost a lot of money when I purchased it in Aug 2003, but I was very happy with the appliance right up to the point where it caught on fire!!!

I left my house for a short vacation and on returning I found my fridge had stopped working, on opening the door I was met with a terrible burning smell, it transpires that there is a heater unit in the fridge that stops it icing up, this had somehow failed and caught fire. The result is the inside of my fridge and everything in it were ruined. The unit is a write off and so was all my food as it was tainted by the smoke. Samsung were initially very good in that they seemed to be very concerned, but it transpires that they are not interested in replacing my unit and have only offered to pay £50 toward the food and the engineers call out charge.

Of all the electrical items in the home what is the one item you do not switch off at night, yes your fridge. My Samsung RS21 Fridge Freezer caught fire and it is only by very good fortune that my house was not burnt down. I really expected Samsung to come through on this one but they weren't interested, I know my unit is out of warranty but I at the very least expected years of reliable service out of mine. Fortunately my insurance company (Norwich Union) have been excellent and have told me to buy another unit and they will pay for it. I am certainly not going to buy another samsung, which is a shame as I liked the product. I have contacted BBC watchdog but as of yet had no response.
