Had a quote with 1ST Quote for a year. Got the renewal documents through but with no price. When we phoned up the policy had gone up and i told them i did not want to continue, the person said ok and that they would cancel my direct debit. I also did it my end. Insured the car with another insurer. 10 days later i get a phone call t from 1st quote to say that my direct debit had been cancelled and that i owe them money. I told them i had cancelled and they said they had no record of it and the phone recording system was apparently down on the day i supposedly called. She said that i would get a bill in the post, which i did for the tune of £160 which apparently is the cancellation fee. I phoned them up gave them the date and time i called to cancel and they said that they would squash it. I have just received another letter saying if i do not pay in 14 days they are going to pass it to a debt collection agency. I have called them again but they do not seem to want to listen and the ombudsman said if we are worried about it to just pay up. In my opinion this is not right and i am very disappointed.
