Good Points

Great principle. The idea of paying less for staying healthy is great.

Bad Points

Complete and total admin nightmare!

General Comments

I have been with PruHealth since may 06. Originally I got the cover through my job so wasn't paying for the cover. Because I stayed healthy at the end of the year they issue me with a cash back cheque for £100, (actually they issued it twice so I got £200) good times. The trouble started for me after the second year, my work wasn't renewing the policy but I had the option to transfer to a self paid scheme and I would retain all my benefits. I had earned £200 Cash back pay from the previous year, this was payable at renewal. When I renewed the cheque never came, when I complained I was told they wont pay cash back to individual policies, completely different to what they told me when they wanted me to renew. My decision to renew had been based on 2 facts one was the £200 cash back. the other was that I was getting my gym membership for free. My gym used to cost me £30 a month before I joined PruHealth, my PruHealth policy was only £35 per month and included the gym for free so it seemed silly not to take it up. Infact because it was a good deal my girlfriend joined and we got a joint membership. PruHealth failed to tell me that my Vitality status would drop from gold back to bronze when she was added though! When the policy renewed for some reason PruHealth canceled my gym membership it took them 2 months to reinstate it.

Shortly after I renewed the policy PruHealth decided to start charging for gym membership, so now both my self and my girlfriend have to pay £30 month each for the gym on top of our premiums. Effectively that means are premium and gym combined just shot up from £70 per month to £130 per month half way through a year and we are stuck to until the contract ends in May.

My advice is don't trust PruHealth. It looks good at first but you can expect the goal posts to move. Complaining doesn't get you anywhere either, if you phone the help line the staff can't seem to do anything but read from a sheet or phone you back a week later! These are just a couple of the problems I have had with PruHealth have had to many to mention.
