Hobgoblin is the sort of beer I really like. Dark, malty and warming. It's a real winter drink, but if on offer in the summer, don't turn it down! Good, honest real ale, in a bottle. Also available on draught. Flavoursome. Widely available in bottles. Can be a bit heavy. Not widely available on draught. Tolkienesque overtones, and the geeky baggage that accompanies that. Toasty, chocolatey taste, not too heavily hopped. It's quite strong so worth taking your time and savouring every mouthful.

On the down side it's rather rich and get get a bit cloying after more than a couple. I've not had enough of it in one sitting to find out, but I suspect it may be a hangover waiting to happen if you over-indulge
