My husband myself & our 2 boys stayed at the Playa Pesquero for the first time from Feb 3rd until the 10th, 2009. I was responsible for booking for my family, I felt a little nervous after reading the other reviews. this was my 3rd time in Cuba & my husbands 2nd. Our week was FANTASTIC & we would do it again in a heartbeat. some people left their plastic drink cups on the beach and then complained they were not cleaned away. Bring your own drink mug to avoid using the little plastic cups. The weather wasn't too hot, it was actually very windy & cool but we didn't have to cook, clean, do dishes so we shouldn't complain. The service we received was exceptional. The resort is huge& that's all we read but it never felt crowded at all. We always were able to get a lounger at the beach. The pool was amazing & beautiful but we found it too cool to swim in as they do not heat the pool. My husband is a very picky eater & he found the variety of the restaurants fantastic as you don't always have to eat at the buffet everynight. (We only ate dinner at the buffet 2 times & the rest were the Asian -GOOD, Grill- GOOD, Seafood - GOOD & Romanitco -GREAT There were 2 weddings while we were there & if you are going to book your wedding, you know it can't be a bad place. As far as the size of the resort, there are carts & trians that will take you where you want. It was never an issue & we couldn't understand why this would bother people. It never took us more than 5 minutes to get to where we wanted to go. We were told that there were 2000 people staying while we were there & you'd never know it.
If you want something on a smaller scale, then I would recommend the Iberostar Daiquiri - Cayo Guillermo but you won't have the variety of food etc. that you will get here. Everything you need is at this resort. For those of you who base your decision NOT to go to this resort because of the bad reviews you read, then that's too bad as you really will miss out on a great place.
