Good Points

Claims Dept handled the one claim Iv'e had in 5 or so years with them, quite efficiently,....but see below, which totally outweigh anything good about them. We used to respect names like RAC and the AA.... but not any more as far as I'm concerned!


General Comments

This is a good story Recently I had a non- fault claim. A little old lady hit our car when parked up she admitted responsibilty. When I advised the RAC of the incident they said they would handle the claim waiving my excesses etc and I was 'ASSURED' that it wouldn't affect my protected no claims bonus's. Next, because of the damage, our oldish 'perfect low mileage' Honda car was then deemed a commercial write off at the RAC's appointed assessor (Main Ford dealership!)....a cash in lieu of repair settlement was arrived at in order for me to repair the car under independantly. Non-negotiable value offered by RAC Engineers, which i reluctantly had to accept in order to keep our great car on the road. Coincidentally our insurance was due for renewal in a few weeks time.. I'd already rang them for a price for some options with drivers which I was given just before the accident .They sent out the higher priced option only in the post when I'd asked for all of 3 options. The best bit is that when I rang up 3 weeks later to talk about renewal on one of the cheaper options, they were quoting me £120 more although the high price option they'd sent out was the same! I queried why?..they said it was because there was a claim recorded that was 'unresolved' and I would have to pay the higher price!! That was it...... off to the price comparison sites!..
Also whilst I'm on the soap box... I felt that some of the people at the RAC call centre were rude and unpolite considering they are selling you something! Over the years when attempting to negogiate price with them because I've had cheaper quotes elsewhere, I have been left hanging on the phone listening to car related music for up to 20 minutes!... Why on earth I've stayed with them for so many years is beyond me? GLAD to have got that off my chest. Moral of the story is that the price comparison sites do a great job. I ended up paying 1/3rd of what he RAC were quoting me with a reputable known insurance company that I have actually been with many years before.
