Good Points

Excellent location, stylish, modern, clean, great breakfast including cava!

Bad Points

A little way from the train and bus stations (10 mins walk)no great views from the rooms, strange taps. double bed was actually two single beds together, but made up seperately. Relatively pricey

General Comments

I stayed three nights here in Jan 09 on a city break to Girona which is north of Barcelona (I reviewed Girona itself on here). This hotel was delightful, one of the best I've stayed at in Europe. The whole hotel is decorated in a modern style, but with real Catalan flair. The room I had was maybe a little small, but en suite, and really well specced. There was an LCD TV with a range of cable/satellite channels (BBC World, CNN in English), a stereo system. There is a "mini bar" with the emphasis on the "mini", as it consists a bottle each of Cocke, and lemon and orange Fanta, bottled water and a single bottle (25cl) of Estrella Damm beer. To be fair these are complimentary, so you can drink them without fearing the bill at the end of your stay.

Bathrooms are the usual shower over a bath, plus wash basin, toilet and a bidet, There are a great selection of goodies in here: toothbrushes, shaving kit, sanitary towels as well as the usual shower gel, soap and shampoo. The sinks are bit quirky being wide and shallow, and the taps take a little thought to figure out! Rooms also have a safe which is always good when abroad to avoid carrying your precious passport around.

The location is excellent, just across a bridge from the old town, and not far from the town square with its restaurants and bars.
There is a restaurant in the foyer which I didn't try, but it does have some good recommendations in the guidebooks. I did sample the breakfast however, which was included in my room cost. This was great. A selection of breads and pastries, cold cuts, Manchego cheese, fruit, freshly squeezed fruit juices, espresso coffee and cooked things like scrambled eggs, sausages and bacon. Best of all is the fact they have free-flowing cava, so you can start the day with a bucks fizz or three!
I couldn't imagine any other hotel in Girona offering so much, though the £90 a night is a little pricey which goes up a lot come hight season so you are paying for the obviious quality. Makes a great bolthole on a short break though.
