Good Points

This gun is very well made indeed. Everything fits well, the mechanisms are all super smooth. The whole gun oozes quality (oozes!?) the size, weight and overall length make it feel compact and effortless in all manor of shooting positions. Not forgetting the rekord trigger, of course. Still regarded by many the best trigger ever fitted to a production spring rifle. I believe it is, it is faultless. I also like the pop up breech now I have got used to it. It is an HW nuff said?

Bad Points

There are no "bad" points I can see. There are, however, a few tiny, very tiny; little "niggles" I have, which are entirely personal. (I am very picky with rifles, I like and expect perfection!) First is the lack of chequring, I find the length of pull slightly too long (I have shorter arms). The reach to trigger is quite long too. And the barrel and underleaver could have been a thicker diameter.

General Comments

This is an excellent little springer! The rifle has nice compact proportions it looks and feels "right". The stock is full length, slim and elegant with a very nice rake to the pistol grip, a low well proportioned cheek peace and drop to heel that feels great in the shoulder, for both open and medium mounted scopes. I have had the hw57 in. 22, for about a month now, it is not run in yet (only fired about 350 rounds) but she is settling down nicely! I love to use a good set of open sights, and the 57 comes with a fantastic set. Second only to HW break barrels. The front sight is quite thick and is fixed, being part of the underlever catch. The rear sight is removable, with four notches to choose from. With these sights I started to run the gun in. after a couple of hundred rounds she started knocking down spinners out to 25 paces perfectly! She can also hit bean tin end on at 50 paces, just for fun! (Not obviously a humane hunting range). I have now scoped her with a nice simple Nikko sterling 6/40 ao mil dot scope on medium mounts. result; a very handy light weight hunting outfit, with near the limit( she ' s doing about 11. 85ft lbs with 14. 5 super domes) power and very accurate out to 35 paces, my hunting maximum with a springer, you own range/ ability might be more than this and im sure the gun can do it. (But not with the amount of strong black coffee and nicotine that I consume!!) This rifle will out shoot me very easily, indeed most people. So to sum up; if you ' re in the market for a robust compact accurate hard hitting little springer with easy to use features and want it to last a lifetime 'can I recommend you at least take the 57 from the gun rack and handle it? You might just fall in love with "her" rugged dependable simplicity! No auto load, no pumps, no bling, nothing you don ' t need, even no scope if you don ' t want one! Just the gun and a pouch of pellets and you are ready for years of fun enjoyable shooting! Or for putting great tasting fresh meat on the table or the camp stove/fire. One last point is that this gun costs about the same, or even less, than some other makers spring guns of average quality. Food for thought.

Having just purchased a 57 with a Richter Optik scope I can endorse the comments made. It's lighter weight makes it easier to use than my previous 97 which is a kilo heavier.
