Bad Points

Asked for too much info before being able to submit request for quotes.
Slow and laborious process.


General Comments

Confused.com provides some accurate quotations. Gave me leverage to negotiate with current insurer for renewal. We searched online for car insurance last year via other sites, and bought a great policy with the Post Office, with the right balance of cost, excesses and cover. When our renewal came this year, we weren't happy with the slight increase in cost, so we tried other well known comparison sites for a better deal. We got various quotes from different insurers but the excesses were higher and the policy often didn't have the same range of cover included. Many of the prices differed widely between sites, for the same products. Wanting to retain our PO policy, we found that online quotes were actually less than our renewal cost. We called PO customer services and were offered a £30 reduction to renew. Still not satisfied, we tried Confused.com which quoted the Post Office policy for £70 less than our renewal quote. We called PO customer services again and presented them with this new info. They actually stated that the Confused.com quotations were generally the most accurate of the online comparison sites and that they could indeed provide the policy at that price.
All things considered, we were disappointed that the PO didn't simply offer us our renewal at the reduced price in the first place. As usual, it would appear there is more incentive offered to new customers than there is loyalty to present customers. But having been provided the ammunition by Confused.com, we were able to negotiate from a stronger position and retain our policy at much less cost.
