Bad Points

- Zetec S with uprated suspension and 18" wheels knocks and jars over bumps.
- Injector problems.
- Rear suspension bushes.
- Dual mass flywheel.
- Heated front screen.

General Comments

- 130bhp engine is strong and powerful.
- Comfortable and roomy, even with children in the back.
- Boot is enormous.
- Very good looking in Zetec S spec. Looking at my 53 Zetec S 2.0 TDCi as a whole i'm very pleased with it. I enjoy driving it and it handles well. It's very comfortable and quiet on the motorway although it has had many expensive problems.

My car was bought second hand and had been used for towing before I bought it. As a result I would strenuously advise that you avoid an example showing any evidence of such activity. My car has required a new clutch, new flywheel, new gearbox, new rear subframe bushes and new rear wheel bearings.

There are also a number of smaller niggles, like the stereo on/off button is right in the firing line of your knuckles when you engage 3rd gear and the connectors for the heated front screen (one each side) are right under the scuttle panel, so they get wet and corrode which leads to heated screen failure.

I also find the low temperature warnings to be very annoying. You either get an amber or red light on your dashboard which makes my heart rate jump every time it comes on. Please Ford, my dashboard is for vehicle-related warnings and information, stick that somewhere else.

The last niggle I have is the woefully small capacity of the screen washer bottle. Luckily there is a level warning light but even so, mine is empty in less than a week after maybe 2 washes per day.

It might sound like I don't like the car very much, but I actually love it, despite all these problems, most of which were my fault for buying a car used for towing. Buy one, you'll love it and if you get the Zetec S it comes with a factory fitted ST style bodykit too.

I also highly recommend the Synergy 1 tuning module from tuning-diesels.com. It's transformed my car in 5th and 6th gear.
