I attempted to use PCWorld's collect@store service today where you reserve products online and collect and pay for them in your local store. I wanted to buy a new television and had shopped around first looking for the one i wanted. I then found it on the PCWorld Website as well as some other websites. The product I wanted was about £15 more on the PCWorld website than other places but the fact that they let you reserve it and then pick it up from your local store the same day appealled to me because it meant I didn't have to pay online or wait for it to be delivered to my house, so I was willing to pay the extra for that benefit.
So i proceeded to order the TV I had chosen and the website told me it was in stock at my nearest store so I reserved it. I then made a specific trip to go pick it up. When i eventually found where in the store to pick it up from, the sales person behind the counter went to go and find it for me. He was gone for a long time but eventually made it back only to tell me that the only stock they had left of the TV I had reserved was either on display or damaged!! He then attempted to phone the Currys store next door to see if they had it in stock (They didn't) and then offered me an alternative, which of course i didn't want because I had already spent enough time shopping around for the original TV I chose! He did not offer to help me in any other way. So I left the store VERY disappointed and annoyed at my wasted time and journey and now intend to buy my new TV elsewhere!
