Bad Points

In need of modernisation and more importantly a good clean!

General Comments

Although the cost of the holiday at Pontins, Prestatyn, was cheap, the standard of accomodation initially offered to us was not acceptable. I accept that Budget accomodation is just that, but i see no excuse for filth and low standards of maintenance.

On arrival we joked that the place looked like a prison camp. It's a very delapidated camp, very run down and in need of modernisation. The first room we had was filthy, there were cobwebs in the corners of the ceiling and on the skirting boards. There was a lot of mould in the bathroom and the floors were filthy too. The final straw was when we found the previous occupants final meal (Spaghetti Bolognaise) still in the kitchen sink. On the plus side, the bed sheets were clean!

We complained to the general manager who after lengthy discussion, agreed to upgrade us to a Club apartment. However as the housekeeping staff had gone home so we were basically given a bunch of keys and told to go and find a clean room and help ourselves to it. We were also given 40 "Pontins Pounds" to spend on site.

The room we had was of much better standard, again very basic but clean enough to be of an acceptable standard. The only concern with this room was that the double sofa bed was sunken in the middle making it impossible to sleep on.

The entertainment is ok for kids. There is enough going on to keep them occupied. The Queen Vic pub is filthy, even when very quiet the tables are sticky and stained and we had to ask numerous time for clean glassess as the glasses were dirty too.

The only positive points i have for this holiday are the cost and the fact that you can use it as a base and drive out to more scenic parts of North Wales. I have fond memories of Pontins from childhood, but sadly this place is in decline.
