Bad Points

Sending out letters when you're just over the overdraft limit. Not listening to customers. Poor customer service


General Comments

I banked with Barclays for over 20 years, but this apparently means nothing to them. My account went into the red when an error on their part took money out of my current account which went over my limit by a £1 or so. I spent so much time and effort trying to rectify their mistake. No compensation offered. Also, I reported £1k that was paid into my account. After investigating they found another customer with the same bank account number (but different sort code) had deposited the money. To resolve the problem they asked me to change account number. These and further problems with them led me to close all my accounts with them. But even now it has come round to haunt me. I had one last savings account that I went to close. I transferred the money to an outside bank and signed the necessary paperwork. Then I discover a few months down the line that it hadn't been closed and i was getting 5p interest.
