- LocationTheatre Royal Drury Lane.
Where to start? From the opening number, "Food Glorious Food" with kids pouring out of every possible orifice, to the entire cast on stage for the finale, this production hits all the right notes in more ways than one.
Performances of note were (obviously) Rowan Atkinson's "Fagin" , Laurence's "Oliver", Ross's "Dodger" and Tamsin's "Nancy". However the show-stealer, for me, was "Nipper" absolutely fantastic!
Bad Points
I cannot think of anything negative about the show. On a technical side I think the vocals could have been louder and the Orchestra less loud - but I think this may be a personal preference and just me being picky.
General Comments
We were initially disappointed to arrive at the theatre and find that Jodie was not performing due to illness, but the "Alternative Nancy", Tamsin was a more than adequate replacement. If you go on a night when she is performing you will not be disappointed.
The show was brilliant from start to finish, I cannot praise it highly enough. All the kids are fantastic, the adult characters believable. the musical arrangements among the best I've heard.
All the positive comments you've heard about Rowan Atkinson's "Fagin" are right. The accent, the songs, that twinkle in his eye. Fab!
Keep an eye out for "Nipper", he was an absolute star for me!
Theatregoers tip: Take your own drinks!!! We were charged £9.40 for a Vodka & Tonic and a Diet Pepsi.
