policy implementation is a minefield you are unlikely to make it through without having your claim refused


General Comments

I have taken out 2 annual multi-trip policies so far and have just had to claim for a missed flight. However, when I actually claimed I soon find the ground lies rather different to when you read the pleasant blurb about the policy benefits - " £0 excess on missed flights" etc

The reason I missed the flight are not accepted by the insurers - it has to be one of THEIR reasons, and you are required to have aimed to be at the airport 2 hours before the flight. It has to be motorised transport breakdown (car or public) - mine was a bike trip.

The policy is effectively useless as I am NEVER going to be able to comply with these requirements - except in the case of illness - as I don't have the time to spare.

Despite it being clear I am a genuine claimant, through rebooking expensively for the following day, my claim is refused - "You didn't go about getting to the airport how and when we tell you you have to ..." (which will almost never allow a flight to be missed except in the most dire cases). And they will want PROOF (the onus is on you to provide this) that you went about it their way, too.

So, all in all, nearly as expensive a mistake to buy this policy as missing a flight you're not REALLY insured for ...
