Good Points

Staff were very friendly and the evening meal was excellent. You can bring your own alcohol on board.

Bad Points

Not very kid friendly. Buffet could have been better/healthier. Overall cleanliness of the ship left something to be desired.

General Comments

Took the Carribean Gems cruise from Dec08/Jan09. The ship came from England and the buffet menu seemed geared towards the English. The quality of the food on the buffet was poor. A lot of greasy/fatty meats and overly sweet deserts. We stuck to the fresh fruits and veggies whenever they were available. Registered our 8 and 10 year old boys in the KidZone but the activities they offered were sporadic. The Sports deck isn't always open and the ping pong equipment, darts and basketball are always locked up so you need to find someone to try and get the equipment. The windows were never washed and the paint job left something to be desired as the glass on my window had paint all around it.
The staff were alway courteous and friendly. Our waiters in the evening were great as was the a la carte food. Whenever we docked we would pick up a couple of beers and had no problem getting them back on board. People from other ships said they had their luggage searched and any alcohol was seized forcing them to purchase their drinks on the ship. The bars on board as well as the wait staff in the seating areas could be increased because it took quite some time to flag one of them down and order - if you could find one.
Overall, the ship was quite small but adequate for what we wanted. I prefer a small ship when travelling with children as I feel better in letting them go to various areas on their own knowing they can find their way back.
