Relaible - comfortable- (for a pick up) nice to look at and can be fairy economical (30 mpg if you go careful). Tows a car trailer and caravan with no problems at all.
Bad Points
Nissan prices. Nissan service - 18000miles £393 !
Safety - NCAP test gave it half a star i think. Pedals moved 20 cm and chasis collapsing on impact though injuries to driver were mostly to feet shin.
General Comments
I have the D40. The predecessor the D22 seems very variable. I have not met one D40 owner yet who has experienced problems.

i have the first 05 reg d40 and after 4,000 miles of carefull driving no heavy loads etc, my clutch started to smell and slip, on the test drive, with the nissan garage, the clutch did the same, then a week later the clutch went and the truck was taken to the dealers for repair, where i had to fight for a week to get it repaired under warranty, lots of more problems, if i see some one with a d40 i always ask if they have had any thing wrong and most say yes, all said and done i love it and now looking at the deals on a new one (must be mad)
