Overall an excellent kettle.
Bad Points
non adjustable volume. Pop up lid covers the access point from the front, so difficult to fill in situ with a jug.
General Comments
This Breville Hot Cup is an interesting kettle. It does not work like the other 'instant' kettle on the market. I think that one pumps water around a heating coil and so it never quite boils - the main gripe as I understand it. This kettle works in a more conventional way. 250ml of water is transferred from the 'reservoir' (which you fill up like a normal kettle) and is boiled. Once boiled the water is ejected by pressure not by a pump. More water is then automatically transferred ready to go again immediately. Eventhough it is efficient in only boiling 1 cup (and the water is plenty hot enough), as it fully boils the water it takes about 35-40 seconds from pressing the button to dispensing. Not instant but it seems much quicker than the time suggests. Overall an excellent kettle, despite the 250ml being slightly too much for a normal mug if you like milk! However......there is a handy drip tray which holds a full cup of water so you can pull the cup away if you don't need the last 20ml or so... or buy bigger cups! I could only find it at Argos (nowhere else on the web at time of writing and not even featured on Breville's own website! I paid about £48 and also paid the £10 for 2 extra years warranty.......worth it for a newish technology like this I reckon.
