Good Points

I can see that for people who are morbidly obese, the initial weight loss would be both encouraging and potentially life saving.

Bad Points

'Food packs' are processed foods and appear to be filled with additives which may be harmful to some people. Also, I feel that the cost is unwarranted. Seriously.

General Comments

I have just come back from the 'initial information meeting' and I am not convinced by this programme. Firstly, I know that I am 5ft.6 and that my BMI is exactly 30 (my doctor measured it 4 days ago), and I was told that I am 5ft.5 with a BMI of 33.3. So, my suspicions were raised to begin with.

I found that the programme is selling psychological support, without trained therapists onsite, to people who are vulnerable and that worries me. My councillor was sweet, I liked her, but her advice was pretty light weight and it seemed to me (someone who has had 10 months of CBT), that her knowledge of the programme was weak, at best.

Regarding the food packs: if you look at the ingredients on the back of the packets, there is corn syrup and palm oil - both of which are really bad for our health and play a roll on the situation we find ourselves in because they are in most processed foods.

I also think this form that your GP or practise nurse has to sign is nonsense. They just have to verify that what you have stated is correct and to measure your blood pressure. That is not a medical. I think this is a smoke screen used to give the programme medical credibility and to cover themselves in case anything goes wrong. (To a previous poster/reviewer: I think having to have emergency surgery to remove your gall bladder is a pretty serious side effect.)

Instead, I will be spending my £66 a week eating natural, unprocessed food bought from a farmers market, cycling there and back, and a couple of Pilates classes.

Food is nutrition, not a punishment or reward! I feel that this programme exacerbates the emotional problems that a lot of us face, with food.
