General Comments

This is something that happened to me about 4 years ago, and things might have changed since then but it was still an interesting experience.
We were travelling in Brazil and had just arrived the house of some friends and went inside to greet everyone. While inside our hire car was stolen from outside the house with everything in it, clothes, cameras the lot. Fortunately I had taken our passports and my laptop out of the car but everything else was in there. On my return I tried to make a claim with our travel insurance company, Norwich Union, who rejected it because they said that luggage was not included in the policy unless requested. This was not made clear when we took it out and what would be the point of taking out a policy that did not include your luggage!!!!
Anyway a short while later I was renewing my house insurance with Direct line and having a winge about NU and the person taking the details said that she was not sure but the items might be covered by my house insurance. They sent me a form and I supplied them with receipts for some of the items but most I no longer had, they got back in touch and made a small deduction for wear and tear and sent me a cheque for almost the full amount. Brilliant.
