General Comments

I paid £800.00 pounds for a brand new Samsung series 6 TV, just after the 28 days it broke, I phoned the head office and was told an engineer would be out because only their engineer could say that the TV was faulty, however if the TV was beyond repair I would be given a letter saying so and I could have a replacement. When the engineer came out he never examined the TV, and only when he had phoned a friend did he say it required a new PCB and PCU boards (both major components) and basically the TV was a write-off, but because Comets apparent policy of REPAIR and not replace these parts could be replaced. He told me he would return with the parts on the 22/12/2008, when I phoned their head office I said that they had sold me a product which was not fit for purpose, the reply was and I quote "It was fit for purpose its lasted over 8 weeks, we cannot guarantee if a product will lasts 8 days or 18 years". Well the day arrived and Comets then told me that he was not coming (although the parts had arrived) and that he should never have said that he would, they then told me it would be Christmas eve before they could come out, and even then the TV may not get fixed, and if it had to be replaced it would take another 5 working days to sort out... so no TV over Christmas.
I could understand the policy of repair for something minor, but when you buy a product in good faith and then when things go wrong there should be good after sales care team which is efficient, and honest. It is not a case of it being life and death situation (as the first person on this web page is suggesting), it comes down to that consumers have very little rights when it comes to these stores and its wrong, they are quick enough to take your money but a lot less quicker in giving it back or repairing the goods.
