I've sold two vehicles, in order to buy one.

Budget: tried to cancel with 7 months to go and was told that I'm due 80% of the remaining fees plus a cancellation fee that amounted to more or less the whole remaining payments - £170.00

Direct Line: On the other hand, did the same to Direct Line who told me: "Thank you for ensuring with us, cancellation fee is £17.50"

Insurance is a bet - I bet against the company that I will not have an accident. If I do, they loose, if I don't, I loose. However, if I did not have a accident and want to cancel, how come they are allowed to charge anything??? How come that those cancellation/short term fees are allowed
