Good Points

"Free" airline ticket the first year, although flights were not available and the stiff fees hardly make it free. Many customer service representatives are very courteous, in common with those you reach with the ordinary Amex cards - but they all seem powerless to resolve problems.


Bad Points

Sometimes horrible customer service, deceptive practices and attitude, which obviously stem from the executives should one ever be able to reach one (I did after threatening legal action).


General Comments

I have an HSBC Platinum Amex card. Supposedly, this qualifies one for airport lounge access when travelling on certain airlines. But as the New Zealand issued HSBC Platinum Amex card has a 'silver fern' motif on its face, the airlines refuse to honour it. Nobody in Amex is willing or able to resolve this anomaly. And there are many other issues which are equally difficult to comprehend given that we are supposedly elite customers.
