General Comments

The Honda Accord 1.8 16V S saloon has an amazing engine - it seems to revel having the engine pushed. Very good handling for such a large car. Quality issues normally associated with Honda's seems to be falling behind! Quality of plastics very poor, build quality very poor. Tacky switches and other gadgets. The worst point about this car is driving in winter, on a busy road or motorway when a lorry is nearby... the dirty water washed from the windscreen is directed all over the drivers-side window. After 4 or 5 washes you cannot see out of the side window for overtaking manouveres! In my opinion its very dangerous! The gearbox also seemed to suffer from selection problems. Replacement of very worn clutch did not cure problem, the car had done 92K (in two years!) but nearly All motorway driving - ie no clutch use? very odd! All in all I think Honda's are over-rated.

Could not agree more with this review. Although the car is generally a joy to drive, I've had an on-going issue with selecting 2nd gear, and have generally been disappointed with the gearbox. My local Honda dealer has been excellent, but the best they could do on the gearbox was to let me drive a demonstrator to prove to me that this is a standard Accord trait!
Interior plastics are indeed poor, scratching/marking very easily. Would also agree with the issue of windscreen water clearing onto the drivers side window - I've resorted to Rain-X to try and improve matters.
Would buy another Honda on the basis of driving enjoyment and excellent dealer support, but would pay a lot more attention on the test drive, and checking out interior trim quality. I believe the new civic and revised Accord are better in terms of trim durability.
