General Comments
iPod Touch
From the moment of watching the Keynote when the iPod was released I knew I had to get one. I have been an Apple fan for quite some time but never bought an iPod before due to the price tag. But, I couldn't resist the iPod Touch.
Basic Features -
The iPod Touch has a battery life of around 22 hours (Music). Be aware this is with the Wi-Fi Option turned off. Even having the Wi-Fi turned on but not connected uses power.
The video playback time is around 5 Hours although I have not yet tested this feature.
The Safari and YouTube features are fantastic, great for quick browsing when I don't want to turn on my computer. Be aware though not all YouTube videos will play its only new ones that have been converted to the new format.
The Calendar is a great feature they also added the option to add items to the calendar. All that's missing is reminders for items you have added.
The clock is great, keep an eye on times from nearly every country in the world. It also has a built in timer and stopwatch which both work great. Although it's difficult to hear the sound with they're not being a fully working built in speaker.
The calculator is just a standard calculator but great if you need one in a rush. Very quick and easy to use.
Contacts application is the same you find on the iPhone, but without calling features. You can set pictures for your contacts and add there address. It also gives you the option to add notes about people.
The iTunes Wi-Fi store is fantastic; it lets you buy music on the go as long as there is a Wi-Fi signal. The song is downloaded straight to the iPod and is sync to the computer you use. The store is very easy to navigate.
The photo application is fantastic. Lets you view all your photos with the flick of a finger or put the iPod on a stand and let it act as a mini photo frame. It will automatically play through all your photos or any album you choose.
In January Apple made it available to download the iPhone applications for the iPod Touch
This Includes - Notes, Maps, Mail, Weather and Stocks.
These applications are great but again you need a Wi-Fi signal to use which is a bit of a down side. I havent had much experience with Stocks.
Weather - Lets you check the weather for your local area or the other side of the world. Fast updating. This service is provided by Yahoo!
Notes - Write yourself a quick note in no time at all. The iPod saves the note to its memory and it can be deleted at any time. (Wi-Fi is not needed for this application)
Mail - Amazing application works with POP3 and IMPA mail services. Some of the major providers are already pre-saved in the system or you can set it up manually. The iPod does not support web based email such as Hotmail.
Maps - Google maps at your hand. Directions from anywhere you want at the touch of a button. (As long as you have Wi-Fi). There is also a locate me feature which will work with certain public wireless networks. Zoom in and out and view in the same modes as you can on the internet.
These applications are available for £12.99 for current owners or free for new customers.
Music - The iPod has amazing music features. Cover flow makes it easy to view all your music if you can be bothered to drag all the album artwork into iTunes. Or just use the normal view to flick with your finger through all your music. Music is also ordered in alphabetical order. You can view music in many different ways including, Artist Song Album Composer and many more which can be all changed on the iPod.
The iPod earphones have amazing quality but do tent to break if used quite a lot. Replacement ones do cost £19.00 so I recomende you take good care of them.
Just to finish off with you can now add web clips (Bookmarks) to the home screen of the iPod and also move the icons on the screen to which ever order you wish. You can also change the items in the dock.
Apple are continuously updating the iPod with new features and improving the current ones and there is a bright future ahead for the iPod Touch.
It isn't just an amazing iPod it can also act as a mini business PDA and many other things.
I hope I have helped with my Basic review of the iPod Touch, anything else doesn't be afraid to ask.
