Good Points

the free version costs nothing but your time and if you have a broadband connection, you will able to repeatedly download and reinstall the program as needed to correct fatal Grisoft programming errors


General Comments

Five weeks after I bought AVG 8 on CD, the company disseminated a routine daily update that causes an infinite "reboot needed" loop. This renders the AV program useless. Grisoft's only solution: buy a new CD. Grisoft sees no problem with asking to be paid 10 times a year for correcting their fatal errors.


WORSE: some AVG code has trashed operating systems. Dell computers FAQ prominently features information about how to repair your operating system after AVG deletes critical files, such that the computer cannot re-boot. Overall, within the past six months, AVG has deteriorated from good to dangerous in my opinion.
